What is stretch canvas?
Before going more deeply into this article let’s have a look at what is stretch canvas and why we are talking about it. Stretch canvas is nothing but a surface of cloth stretched and mounted on a wooden frame in such a way that a painter can paint their master artwork and bring it to the world with a professional look.

How to make stretch canvas frame
now let’s talk about how to make a stretch canvas frame and we will talk step by step.
Step1.
At the very early step, choosing the correct wood is very important. This can help stretch canvas life to bring the maximum. Any kinds of wood are not fit for canvas stretching if you consider these points-
A. Termite- Not every kinds of wood are pest resistive. Termite can damage frame as well as the canvas over a long period. In this case pine wood is proven with a good outcome.
B. Weight- Considering transportation and it will be hanging on the nail for a long time)
C. Wood surface- Perfect surface finish of wooden frame is best for the stretch canvas. Some time if the surface has joints, pith, medullary rays, bark it may made the frame weaker and may not last for long time.
Step2.
Select the right canvas. I mean all the cloths are not suitable and durable for painting. for making a professional canvas it’s always good choice to go with branded canvas cloth as they maintain all precautionaries to manufacture such items. Small grain, medium grain & large grain canvas cloths are used and manufatured as per requirement.
Step3.
Precission wood cutting machine can cut the perfect size of the frame arm with perfect angle. Mistake in cutting angle can decrease frame quality and it can come with tilted surface.
Step4.
Joining of all 4 arm in right manner with V nail my maintaining 90 degree of each corner makes a best frame. Once the frame is ready, Canvas with 2″ extra from each side should cut and staple all side. Canvas stretch plier should be used to stretch the canvas so that the canvas gets enough tension. based on the type of frame the frame hooks are attached.
