Generally, widely used canvas shapes are two types.

Rectangle Shape Canvas
Many digital photographs, captured by phone or camera, are rectangular in shape. Depending on the orientation of your picture, the photograph will be painted on canvas in portrait or landscape format.
Square Shape Canvas
If the image is already a square image, it will be painted as it is on canvas. But if you have a rectangular photograph and wants a square shape canvas painting, the photograph needs to be cropped as per the requirement. Enlarging an image to fit on big size canvas reduces the image quality more. Still if you want a big canvas painting without compromising on image quality, it’s better to speak to the professional artist.
